Our Ingredients

Although our products are a melting pot of traditional healing herbs and plants from around the globe, we discovered some of the best herbs are sourced right here in New Zealand. All X-ZONE products contain between 4-5 carefully selected traditional healing plants including Harakeke, Horopito, Kaihikatea, Rata, Koromiko, Tūpākihi, Kūmarahou, Pukatea, Kareao, Pūriri and Kōwhai. We have been using New Zealand herbal ingredients since 2003 and are convinced of their unique healing properties — as are our customers.

We source organic ingredients where possible, and all of our products are vegan (no beeswax, emu oil or dairy derived alcohol).  We never use palm oil or any palm oil derivatives in any of our products. 

All X-ZONE products contain the vibrational energies of a unique mix of First Light Flower Essences of New Zealand® to enable healing potential at a more subtle, energetic level.

Arnica (Arnica Montana)

Arnica provides pain relief, quickly reduces bruising and promotes the healing process.

Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora):

Camphor oil is extracted from the wood of camphor trees. It has a wide variety of uses due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal attributes.

Cayenne (Capsicum Annum):

Cayenne invigorates blood vessels and helps body cells to receive the blood they need to heal. Contains a high number of nutrients, including Vit C and Provitamin A, as well as Capsaisin which may offer several health benefits including pain-relief, improved athletic performance and lower blood sugar levels.

Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao Butter):

Cocoa Butter also known as the Food of the Gods by the ancient Mayans, it is also a wonderful skin moisturiser that melts at body temperature and assists with the absorption of active ingredients into the affected areas. High in vitamin D2, it’s also rich in minerals, such as potassium, phosphorus, iron, copper and magnesium.

Comfrey (Symphytum Officinale):

Comfrey traditionally used to help heal bruises, as well as pulled muscles and ligaments, fractures, sprains, strains, and osteoarthritis.

Clove (Caryophyllus):

Clove traditionally revered as a natural anti-septic and pain reliever.

Frankincense (Boswellia serrata):

Frankincense traditionally known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, as well as ability to reduce joint inflammation caused by arthritis.

Ginger (Zingiber):

Ginger helps improve blood flow, has anti-inflammatory properties and is a powerful, natural painkiller.

Glycerin (Glycerine), Certified Organic:

Our Glycerin is coconut derived. Glycerin (also called glycerine or glycerol) is a sugar alcohol which acts as a moisturiser (emollient) and humectant, meaning it absorbs water from the air.

Harakeke (Phormium tenax):

Harakeke a native New Zealand herb widely recognised for its powerful and versatile healing properties. Traditionally used in māori rongoā for pain relief and its benefits for the skin.

Horipito (Pseudowintera colorata):

Horipito anti-inflammatory, circulatory stimulant. (Source: Phytomed)

Kahikatea (Dacrycarpus Dacrydoides):

Kahikatea used externally for bruises and can be applied to dry, flakey skin. Can be useful to strengthen the general constitution. (Source: Self Heal)

Koromiko (Hebe salicifolia):

Koromiko is traditionally used for bruises & headaches (Source: Self Heal)

Kowhai (Sophora Microphylla): the bark is used for sprains, back pain, wounds and broken limbs. Helps knot broken limbs. (Source: Self Heal)

Kōwhai (Sophora microphylla):

Kōwhai wood is known for its durability, elasticity and toughness, hence its choice as a key ingredient in X-ZONE Sports formulations. Traditionally, Kōwhai bark was heated and applied as a topical poultice to soothe sprains and bruises, typically associated with the abdomen and back. It was known as a ‘Bone Mender’, helping to knot broken limbs. (Source: Self Heal)

Kūmarahou (Pomaderris Kūmarahou):

Kūmarahou is a versatile plant with a long history in traditional medicine, commonly used as a soothing, moisturising and healing agent for skin rashes, sores and lesions, as well as rheumatism and arthritis. According to Self Heal's website Kūmarahou "detoxifies the blood and is high in anti-oxidants which support vitality, speed, endurance and physical and mental performance". So great for sports people.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia):

Lavender is best known for its soothing and calming properties, although it is also associated with burns and skin repair. It has anti-septic and analgesic properties, as well as cytophylactic (increases leucocytes to fight infection) properties to promote healing.

Menthol (Mentha piperata):

Menthol provides a cooling action to the skin and helps reduce swelling.

Pukatea (Laurelia novae-zelandiae):

Pukatea supports the nervous system. Traditionally used as a strong analgesic/pain management plant. (Source: Self Heal)

Pūriri (Vitex Lucens):

Pūriri is traditionally used topically for sprains, backache and ulcers. (Source: Self Heal)

Rata (Metrosideros robusta):

Rata is especially soothing for the elderly and children. May be used during convalesence and for general tiredness. Supports muscle and joint comfort. (Source: Self Heal)

Spearmint (Mentha spicata): 

Spearmint is known for its versatile medicinal properties. Invigorates the senses.

St John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum):

St John's Wort is an age-old herbal relief especially effective for bruising, and when applied topically also has anti-inflammatory properties.

Tūpākihi (Coriaria arborea):

Tūpākihi is a traditional māori rongoā used to knit together broken bones and hairline fractures. Tūpākihi works effectively and rapidly to relieve deep bone and muscular pain - arthritis, muscle, tendon and nerve pain, sprains and strains, bruising, tenseness, varicose veins, gout and rheumatism (Source: Tutu Rongoa Māori).

Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana):

Witch Hazel contains procyanidins, resin, and flavonoids, all of which give it soothing, anti-inflammatory properties.

Wintergreen (Gaultheria fragrantissimum):

Wintergreen has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It has been found to relieve pain in some studies as it contains methyl salicylate a known pain reliever. Wintergreen has been traditionally used by native North Americans as a remedy for aches and pains.
